When you hear 'futures', 'put options,' or 'call options,' do your eyes glaze over?

You're not alone.

Unless you're a commodity broker, trying to understand futures and options can feel like learning an entirely different language.

My goal with this course is to help you understand futures, puts, and calls, from the perspective of someone who's in your shoes. I'm a farmer and have built my career in the agriculture industry.

If you're looking for a stodgy, boring course full of industry jargon...this isn't the course for you.

If you're looking for a course that brings you grain marketing education about futures and options in a fun, relatable way...then you're exactly where you should be.

What will I learn in this course?

You're going to gain an understanding of when and why you would hedge using futures, buy put options, and buy call options as a commodity producer.

I share real world examples of how we use futures and options on our farm, explain the mechanics, and share when or why you would consider using these in your marketing strategy. The examples focus on marketing corn and soybeans, but the concepts hold true for marketing other grains too.

While this is 201, and builds off the cash grain marketing knowledge gained in 101, it's still a basics course. We are not going to cover complex futures and options strategies. Before learning about those, it's important to start simple, and understand the basics of futures and options. That's what drives all the complex strategies, so building that foundational knowledge is crucial. And that's what you'll learn in Grain Marketing 201.

While this course is fully online and self-paced (so you can take it when and where it works best for you!), you'll have hands-on activities with each lesson. Think: printable worksheets, quizzes, & discussion questions.
